Former St. Lawrence County chair endorses Woolf

Curiouser and Curiouser ... That is what I see in this election for the 21st Congressional district.

We are looking at three very different candidates. Each has their own style to offer us. Let’s look at each from the perspective of a future St. Lawrence County constituent.

Seriously, the Green Party candidate has had some good things to say but I can’t believe that he would be taken seriously down in Washington after they hear his conspiracy theories on 911.

They would not take us seriously either as we would be the group that sent him there. Our interests easily dismissed. He has no hope of winning; at least for our sake, I hope not.

Now, the Republican candidate is quite interesting. Her background and experience in the higher echelon, referring to the elite part of that party and the Washington insiders she has regularly hobnobbed with would certainly seem as if she would be taken seriously.

To me, that is a scary thought. It is her thoughts and actions that undermine her words. She walked away from a senior citizens group that was waiting for her when confronted by reporters on her stance on Social Security and Medicare. She has tried to distance herself, for election purposes, from Paul Ryan’s budget though she was right in with them in the last election.

She would not have been there at all if they thought she did not agree and support his positions . Her specious arguments about ethics don’t ring true either when she didn’t properly withhold her campaign manager’s taxes despite knowing he was not an outside contractor but an employee working for her campaign. Excuse me! Harvard grad and insider politico didn’t know that about the law!

Her nasty and vicious campaign against Matt Doheny by her buddies in the Tea Party Express finished me.

Ah, Aaron Woolf. Never heard of him before he became a candidate; he had little political experience but he looks like he is a fast learner. Having listened to him speak and watched him in action as he has gone community to community in this vast district, of all his qualities, his sincerity and decency have shown through.

He believes in us and wants to see our region grow and thrive. To a great extent, he approaches this position with the fervor of James Stewart in “Mr. Smith Goes To Washington” (a movie reference for us older folk!) He is intelligent, thoughtful and committed to our area. Maybe it’s time for us to put our faith in someone who shares our values and will fight for us in that crazy arena that is Washington.

I am a Democrat and like many fellow Democrats and Republicans who thinks before voting. I take my vote very seriously and I like to be sure I have a clear picture in mind. I will vote for Aaron Woolf not because he is a Democrat but because he is indeed the best choice for our people.
