Fond memories of Connie’s back in the ‘70s

To the Editor:

My stepfather was the star pitcher for Connie’s slow-pitch softball team (and an accomplished billiards “player”) for many years back in the ‘70’s.

Often, when I was left in his care, we would head into town to hang out at Connie Barr’s. Michael didn’t drive back then, so we hitch-hiked (!!!) into town - quite fun for a 6-year-old, as you can imagine.

While there, Connie would always make me something to eat and give me free access to the pool tables, pinball etc., but my favorite was the shuffleboard table. I would stand on a chair and spend hours (!) lining up the shot just right and marveling at the disc as it glided down the table.

Also, Connie would give my family the kitchen scraps in 5gal. buckets to feed our pigs. I distinctly remember his mac-n-cheese was a favorite-even for the pigs!

It was great food and fun times and I for one am thankful for the memories.
