First ‘Maple Run’ sees great turnout and support in Canton, organizer says

To the Editor:

On April 22, we hosted the first annual Maple Run Half Marathon & 5K in Canton. We could not have asked for a better turnout and support. We’d like to specifically thank these individuals:

Runners: Thank you for taking a leap of faith and participating in the inaugural run. You inspire me.

Volunteers: This race didn't happen without you. This group of volunteers put in hours and days of work leading up to this event- taking time away from their families and staying out late/waking up early to stuff bags, fill syrup bottles, set the course, fundraise, etc.- it was truly magic.

Sponsors: Thank you for believing in the event! Your contributions helped make this a premiere road race for the North Country. I am indebted to you all, and in awe of your willingness to give and support our community. Our sponsors included Adirondack Dental, Adirondack Coffee Co., Adirondack Fragrance Farm, Canton Apples, Canton Community Fund, Cindy’s Cake Shop, Hurlbut’s Farm, MacK Maple Supply, Viable Options, Towle Chiropractic, The Yoga Loft, Pepsi Ogdnesburg Bottlers, Parker’s Maple, River Septic Service, Stewart’s Shops, Hyde-Stone Mechanical and Not Your Average Cookie, and several other anonymous contributions.

About six months ago I told a close group of friends about this wild idea to host a half marathon in Canton that benefits local cross country teams. On April 22 those people stood by my side, volunteered, ran and cheered- for you, the participant, and the young harriers in St. Lawrence County. I guess I'm not so crazy after all.

We'll be back next year.
