Experience important in Potsdam Central School board race

I am writing to encourage people to vote for Sandra Morris in the upcoming election for the Potsdam Central Schools Board of Education. I believe that Sandra has many of the experiences and qualifications needed to make her an excellent choice.

It has always made sense to me that a candidate for the School Board should have been active within our school district. Been active on School Board committees or with the PTSA. Attended and been prepared to ask questions at budget hearings. Regularly attended School Board meetings for several years.

These are all activities Sandra has engaged in over the last ten years because she is, and will be, committed to helping create the very best educational experience for all students.

I believe that all the candidates are good people. However starting on the School Board instead of working one’s way up to the School Board doesn’t seem quite right. It’s a bit like a hockey player trying to start at the NHL, skipping all the years in the juniors where they learn the necessary skills and knowledge to be successful at the NHL.

Finally, it is interesting to note that if the right combination of candidates win, a majority of the School Board will be members of the Teachers Union, school district CSEA, or a family member of one of the two unions. Is there a problem with a teacher or family member being on the school board – absolutely not.

However, no single special interest group should have that much influence on the School Board. So, I encourage you to consider voting for Sandra because she’s been involved on and around the School Board for over ten years, is one of the most knowledgeable people related to the school district finances, and will be there for all children and groups. Thank you and please vote.
