To the Editor:

According to the Harvard School of Public Health, addiction and mental health disorders account for more than one-fifth of all lost days of productive life, far more than cardiovascular disease, which ranks second.

Employee Assistance Programs or EAP’s can confidentially refer workers to agencies and professionals that will help them cope with the stress of personal, family and work or for those who suffer or believe they suffer drug, alcohol or mental health issues.

EAP’s can help employees stay working and productive. Ask your employer or union representative if you have a similar program.

Reachout of St. Lawrence County also assists members of our community by handling crisis and non-crisis anonymous calls and refers them to appropriate professionals, groups or agencies that can help – an ear when you are in need of someone to listen.

Check reachouthotline.org for more information.

Treatment works, people recover, and New Yorkers are well worth the investment.
