To the Editor:
We would like to take the opportunity to thank all those who participated in the 2nd Annual “Droppin the Gloves” on cancer women’s hockey tournament. Again this year the event was held at Cheel arena. Seven team participated and nearly $11,500 was raised, almost $5,000 more than last year! 46 pink seats were sold to honor or remember loved ones who are battling or who have lost their battle with breast cancer. Three Zamboni rides in honor of cancer victims and survivors were also purchased.
This tournament is a true testament to the people in St. Lawrence County who support cancer initiatives for women. The games were well attended, the street fair was a tremendous success and the overall atmosphere was of both joy and sorrow. The money raised by this tournament will be split between Massena Memorial Hospital and Canton-Potsdam Hospital to assist cancer patients with various needs from travel to wigs.
We are humbled by the volunteer help from the Rosie’s Racers teams and their families, along with all the support that comes from the community. Please join us next year on Oct. 7, 8 and 9 as we proudly skate toward a cure!
Many thanks to our sponsors: Clarkson Athletics, NorthCountryNow.com, Victory Promotions, St. Lawrence Gas, Frenchie’s Chevrolet, Pepsi-Cola Bottlers, Great Northern Printing, Atlantic Testing Laboratories, and Helena General Store, Massena Memorial Hospital and Canton-Potsdam Hospital.
