To the Editor:

I was recently informed that St. Lawrence County is trying to cut Cornell Cooperative Extension from the upcoming budget.

This is one of the tax-funded programs that directly impacts the community in a positive way.

Not only do they offer things for the 4-H kids, but they also offer seminars and classes in different avenues of agriculture that are open to any who want to learn.

The educators do extensive work in the after-school programs around the county, and the nutrition program is helpful to any who need it.

The Ag awarness days in the spring bring kids to the farm from local schools.

The agronomist answers my question when I need help with the soil in my garden, and tells me another place I can call when I need to identify a weird bug.

Extension impacts our community in so many areas, that our county would be a less vibrant place if we lost it. Call the county legislators and tell them how extension has improved your life.

Reducing the budget should not mean cutting valuble educational resources.
