Dental care hard to find on Medicaid, says Parishville woman

To the Editor:

February is National Children’s Dental Health month. Good dental hygiene promotes overall physical health and well-being.

Unfortunately, in St. Lawrence County most Medicaid recipients continue to live with poor dental hygiene. Medicaid premiums don’t quite measure up to other insurances. As a result, finding a local dentist that accepts Medicaid is hopeless.

Eligible Medicaid recipients aren’t given adequate resources to take care of their dental needs. Money that could be going back into this depressed community is either unused or spent outside of the St. Lawrence County area, where Medicaid is more readily accepted in the dental field.

Immediate accommodations need to be made available to the community. This problem needs to be addressed by the community, it can’t continue to go unnoticed.

No teeth left behind.
