Demick says it's time for new insight on Hammond Town Council

To the Editor:

My name is Howard Demick and I am running for a seat on the Hammond Town Council in this year’s November 8th election.

I grew up in Hammond, on our small 150 acre farm, attended our local school and did pretty much everything a kid could do in Hammond in the good old days while growing up.

I married my wife Rosemary in 1979 and we began to build our future together. We have two children Ryan and Erica as well as a grandson, Carter.

Many of you may know the YesterYear’s Vintage Doors business that I have built over the years with my family.

My goal was to build a business that would be successful enough to be able to keep my family together and employed here in the Hammond area.

Many years of hard work have proven to be fruitful for my business and now it’s become ever more apparent to me that it’s time we address some of the issues that our town faces by getting more involved.

We must create an atmosphere for others to realize the same successes without government burdens.

I was a Town Justice in Hammond for 26 years and those of you who know me from that perspective know that I served as an advocate of our town’s residents and did not abuse the integrity of this office.

I have the experience in business as well as legal matters that can help bring much knowledge to the many discussions and decisions that will take place.

Many towns in our north country cannot boast of the resources that our town provides.

We have a good agricultural base, a school system, a Village nucleus, a Chippewa Bay community, an Oak Point community, a Black Lake shoreline community and a vibrant St. Lawrence River shoreline/Island community as well as over 100 businesses nestled in our rural landscape.

This is the key to our success. The vision of where we go from here is up to all of us and it’s important who our leaders are in office.

What sets me apart from my opponents is the way that I look at the opportunities. It is time for new insight into the Town’s future and we need to try to bring back what we have lost and make it better.

Be conservative, debate the ideas and include everyone in this process.

One of the reasons that I am running for a Town Board position is the fact that I do worry about the future of the place where I grew up. I do like the rural lifestyle that we all enjoy and I am concerned about the direction that our town takes. I believe that the Bertram administration has a good handle on all of these issues and that I can help them advance this agenda.

So with this in mind, I am asking that you support the Demick/Young/Bertram ticket by voting the “Good Government” line on Row H when you go to the polls on Tuesday November 8th. It is the only clear choice for continued positive change.
