DeKalb Junction legislator candidate wants a change of guard

To the Editor:

My name is Larry D. Denesha and I am running for the position of St. Lawrence County Legislator, District 6 which encompasses the towns of Clifton, DeKalb, Fine, Hermon and Russell.

I made my decision to run for this position well over 2 years ago, based on the belief that there are systemic problems within the current legislative body that could not or would not be resolved without a changing of the guard.

Our current Democrat controlled legislature operates as a “block of nine” and therefore has the ability, as well as the track record, of controlling virtually every vote that comes before the legislative body. They would have you believe they vote independently and with the best interests of the residents and taxpayers of St. Lawrence County in mind.

However, it is my contention and observation that the exact opposite is true. To see the “block of nine” in action, all one need do is attend a limited number of the open meetings held each month at the legislative chambers, to wit: A Party Line vote opposing a resolution demanding repeal of the NYS SAFE Act. A Party Line vote granting unrealistic and untimely pay increases to the District Attorney’s staff. A Party Line vote denying a temporary contract extension to Casellas, after a “recess” where it could be assured everyone knew which way they were expected to vote.

I am asking for your vote on November 4th so we can make the changes that are necessary to get back to a government for the people, of the people and by the people.

If you will promise to elect me to the position of St. Lawrence County Legislator on November 4th, I promise to represent each and every resident of the towns that I serve, to the best of my ability. I will challenge the status quo…just because something dictated by Albany may be right for another area of the state, it may not be right for St. Lawrence County…if it needs to be challenged, I will do so, with vigor and tenacity!

I promise to take the politics out of decision making…politics has no place in decision making, decisions need to be made based upon the needs of the people, not personal agendas and blind allegiance to political parties or bosses.

If you will promise to elect me to the position of St. Lawrence County Legislator on November 4th, I promise to stand up and be counted…I will not blame others, I will take accountability and responsibility for my actions, I will make the hard decisions.
