DA candidate’s history raises big questions

Posted

To the Editor:

I have worked in the criminal justice system in this county for many years. I have observed Nicole Duvé in her current role as district attorney, and in her previous roles as defense attorney and local judge. In watching her career, it is clear to me that she is honest, hard-working, and has the personal and professional integrity necessary to be our district attorney.

Her opponent has leveled many accusations and criticism against Nicole and her office. I don’t know much about Mary Rain, nor seemingly does anyone from the county.

It appears that in 2007, while working as an assistant district attorney in Oswego County, she became embroiled in a dispute with the presiding county court judge, which resulted in headlines and ethical complaints.

She later left that job to be an assistant district attorney in Jefferson County. She lasted three months.

She then took a job as St. Lawrence County’s Public Defender. It wasn’t long before she again became embroiled in controversy, resulting in the county legislature stripping her of her administrative duties. At the time she repeatedly told reporters she was leaving because of the “overwhelming” workload. She now claims that she never said that. Hmm, I guess those reporters just made it all up.

From looking at her past history, it appears when the going gets tough, Mary Rain runs away. Given her track record, how can she possibly expect to manage the busiest legal office in the county? Controversy follows Mary Rain wherever she goes – her history proves it.

We need and deserve a strong district attorney who is scrupulously honest and possessed of a strong work ethic. Please join me in supporting Nicole Duvé for District Attorney Nov. 5.
