To the Editor:
As a taxpayer and voter of St. Lawrence County I am at the end of my patience with reading and hearing about one more case in our court system that is getting dismissed because Mary Rain is not doing her job!
The entire fault lies at her feet. She is the one who is the leader in the prosecutor's office, the one the voters elected to be in charge and shoulder the biggest burdens of the job.
I am seeing a growing trend that is very disheartening - criminals don’t have much to worry about if they do get caught.
There is no fear that the DA’s office is going to do their job and have their i’s dotted and their t’s crossed before they go to a grand jury and certainly the job would not go undone until time expires on the case.
My message, as a voter and taxpayer, is this: Mary Rain, Stop playing adolescent games of retribution against those whom you don’t like.
If you want adolescent games - become a grade-school teacher where there are plenty of adolescents. Stop blaming everyone else for your failings - every person who has been in the position you are in has been overworked and understaffed and underpaid.
Welcome to everyone’s world - I have yet to be at my job or talk to another and hear how well staffed everyone is.
Make it work - that is why you are in charge. Somehow others have found a way to get it all done without having so many cases thrown out for lack of work on the DA’s part. If you want to walk around and act like a bully, sulking and blaming and seeking retribution toward others - get out of office!
I personally feel that we have wasted way too much taxpayer money letting you stay in office when you aren’t proving to be a worthy elected official - resign and allow someone else the opportunity to actually put criminals away and do what you seem unable to do.
Your behavior really does just make you the laughing stock - I can’t believe you entered into office wanting that.
So, if you cannot possibly resign - then for pity’s sake pull yourself together and act like a professional!
