County needs Regan's financial skills and ability to curb spending

To the Editor:

When I read in the paper recently that a 20 year employee of St. Lawrence County, and a Republican to boot, says he’s worked for four County Clerks and Gavin Regan is the best he has seen for generating income, decreasing costs, and having some new ideas that generate efficiency and income, I take notice. At times like these a fresh outlook is beneficial to all of us.

One small program shows how Mr. Regan can analyze the “big picture” and see ways to improve things.

By sharing services between the Real Property Office and the County Clerk’s Office, he instantly cut $12,000 from the budget while increasing slightly the revenue of the Real Property Office.

He has increased revenue stream by visiting NY City and adding several new dealers to those who use his office to complete their registration.

After talking to all the dealers, he was sure they would be satisfied with a two or three day return on their paperwork, instead of overnight service. Not one dealer complained.

This has saved the county taxpayers thousands of dollars because this change has resulted in a drastic cut in comp and over-time costs.

While many county departments had to cut staff during his budget crisis, Mr. Regan was able to prove they were generating increased revenue when compared to the previous year.

That says a great deal about his leadership and how well his hard-working staff performed under his direction.

I would like to thank him for keeping my daughter, Cathy Streeter and giving her the respect she deserves and has earned for her 21 years of service in the County Clerk’s office.

Our County needs his financial skills and ability to curb spending when most families are having to do the same.

Gavin Regan has proven in a short period of time his ability to be and excellent County Clerk who is leading us in the right direction. Please vote for Gavin Regan on November 8th.
