Lately there have been several animal abuse cases reported by our local press. There seems to be confusion about the names of the local animal welfare groups in our county.
There is just one SPCA organization allowed per county. St. Lawrence County SPCA is located at 6718 State Route 68, Ogdensburg.
The Massena Humane Society is located at 177 South Racquette Road in Massena. The MHS contracts with the Towns of Massena and Louisville.
The Potsdam Humane Society is located at 17 Madrid Avenue in the village of Potsdam. PHS contracts with the Towns of Brasher, Clifton, Colton, Hermon, Hopkinton, Lawrenceville, Norfolk, Parishville, Potsdam; including the two villages of Potsdam and Norwood, Stockholm including Winthrop.
Friends 4 Pound Paws is a new humane society in the Gouverneur area, hoping to put up a building in the spring of 2014.
They serve our communities by providing humane care of animals.
