To the Editor:

The Community Lunch Program for Kids completed three very successful distributions of breakfast and lunch food items to children in the Norwood, Norfolk, Raymondville area over the 2017 summer vacation. Many of these children receive /reduced lunch during the school year, but are left without this support when school is not in session. During the three summer months 4,390 meals were distributed to approximately 160 families with a total of 439 children.

This program was made possible by the generosity of monetary donations from local businesses, churches and civic groups. We would like to express our sincere appreciation to the following groups that gave so generously in response to our 2017 appeal: Community Bank N.A.-Norwood, Corning- Canton, Diocese of Ogdensburg- Bishop’s Fund-Ogdensburg, Knights of Columbus- St Andrew’s Church, Norwood, Neighbors Helping Neighbors (The Catholic Churches of Norwood, Norfolk and Raymondville), Norfolk American Legion-Norfolk, Norfolk Housing Authority-Norfolk, Norwood Norfolk Raymondville Outreach

The Norfolk Wesleyan Church;, The Norfolk Lions, Norfolk Kiwanis Club, and United Methodist Church – Norwood

We also appreciate Dollar General, Perry’s, Al Smith’s and FeFee’s for allowing us to set up collection boxes in their stores.

In addition to food, all families who received food at the July distribution, also received a $15 gift card from Common Cents Thrift Shop.

All children involved in the August distribution received a new book compliments of the Friends of Norwood Public Library.

Finally, we appreciate the support of the Food Bank of Central New York, which allowed us to purchase food items for a nominal cost, as well as receive free USDA foods.

The Community Lunch Program for Kids will continue to offer large boxes of breakfast/lunch food items over school breaks due to the generosity of these local churches, businesses and civic groups.
