To the Editor:
St. Lawrence County Youth Conservation Corps (YCC) is making the work a lot easier in Colton. In their 35th year of supplying needed working crews to local businesses and non-profit organizations, the eight-person crew, with Crew Leader Jennifer Gray, is aiding in the restoration of the Pleasant Mound Cemetery.
The YCC group met with the cemetery trustees on Wednesday mornings and worked throughout the day painting wrought iron fences, helped level plots, and helped with the repair of damaged and weathered stones. The groups also cut brush and raked the areas to help to rid the cemetery of many years of pine needles and brush.
Shirley Gardner, Marlyne Miller, Lynn Thomas, Leonard Paige and Barbara Watson were the trustees who donated their time and muscle to the restoration project that has been ongoing for the past three years. This is the second year of the YCC has aided in the beautification of the nineteenth century cemetery.
The trustees would like publicly say thank you to the YCC and the crew who helped this year. The names are David Boyle, Juwan Burks, Stephen Davis, Nickolas Emens, Joshua Locey, Rian McFaddan, Kameron Perry, and Dillon Smith, along with their crew leader Jennifer Gray.
