To the Editor:
During the recent “First Saturday” event celebrating the return of the college student, my daughter (Julianna) and her friend Karissa Kingsley held their second annual Lemonade Stand fundraiser for the Potsdam Animal Shelter.
Selling lemonade at fifty cents a cup, working all afternoon, they were able to raise $291 for the animal shelter, and I kicked in an extra nine dollars to make an even $300.
We would like to give a special thanks to the many students that stopped by the stand.
The magic of this event is that they only sold about 300 cups of lemonade, which means that about half the money was raised purely by donation, and most of that was from the college students.
We (the community) need to recognize that “our” college kids contribute a lot to the village, and we definitely appreciate their kindness.
