Canton town councilman backing Button
To the Editor:
I wholeheartedly write this letter of endorsement for the person I believe to be the absolute best candidate to be our next St. Lawrence County Treasurer. The best indication of how effective a candidate will be in the future is how well they have done in the past. When I look at all the good David Button has done in over 20 years of public service to our community, I’m excited about what he can do for our county as its next treasurer.David Button was the person with the vision and energy to create a state-of-the-art wastewater treatment plant and Partridge Run Golf Course. David Button was instrumental in creating and expanding the bicycle path through our community. He has also spearheaded our community’s waterfront revitalization. The plan that made the development of the old bowling alley a major success was put together with the leadership of David Button. This plan was implemented without using any local taxpayer dollars and will substantially aid the tax dollars received by the village, town, school district and county for many years to come. David Button has led our community in support of SUNY Canton’s expansion plans, and has actually generated significant income from the project for our town and community.
Amazingly, he and the town board have done many other projects while cutting the tax rate over the last three years. The fact that almost 50 percent of the town’s property is tax exempt shows what foresight, dedication, good planning, hard work and oversight of the budget can do. Presently Canton has one of the lowest municipal tax rates in St. Lawrence County thanks to David’s leadership. In fact, the town’s balance sheet is as strong as it has ever been.
I want a better future for St. Lawrence County. I truly believe David Button gives all of us our best opportunity to overcome the current economic downtown and head us in the right direction. I will be supporting David Button for county treasurer.
