To the Editor:
The Canton Pee Wee Soccer program has concluded the 2013 season. Over 330 Canton and surrounding area children, ranging from pre k to sixth grade, enjoyed learning how to play soccer this season. Each team completed a variety of skill drills at each practice and put their talents to the test with a scrimmage. All players improved their soccer skills and had a great time in the process.
This year’s highlights included the opportunity to be a part of the SUNY Canton Men’s and Women’s Soccer Program. The Roos hosted our older youth soccer players in a skills clinic. The younger Pee Wee’s had the opportunity to escort the men’s team onto the field for a home match and stand side by side with the team during the national anthem.
The Pee Wee Soccer program is grateful for the support of the local businesses that sponsored a team. This year’s sponsors included: Penksi, Hot Tamale, Bessette’s Rememption Center, Spicy Iguana, Stiles Bridges and Associates, Star Route Auto Service, Blackbird Café, St Lawrence Brewery, Fast Print, Fused Solutions, McFadden Dier Insurance, Canton Apples, TTS Tree Service, Claxton Hepburn Medical Center, Glow Spa, Jules of Life Foundation, Smile Associates, chiropractors Dr. Lisa Francey Towle and Dr. Jamie Towle, Sergis, Parker Line Striping, McCluskey Photography, Canton Tire, Leberge & Curtis, and Mort Backus & Sons.
Balloons donated from White’s Flowers started the season out well, helping to direct each player where to go. Apples were donated by Canton Apples for a sweet snack as the weather cooled off and fall set in.
A special thank you goes out to all the coaches who showed up each night, enthusiastic to play and lead their team. A handful of people were there to help me set up the goals, line the fields, make field maps and supervise each nights play - a big thank you to you too. It was a great season and I look forward to seeing everyone on the soccer field next summer.
