To the Editor:

The Canton Pee Wee Soccer program has concluded the 2015 season. Over 300 Canton, and surrounding area children, ranging from pre-K through sixth grade enjoyed learning how to play soccer this season.

Each team completed a variety of skill drills at each practice and then put their talents to the test with a scrimmage. All players improved their soccer skills and had a great time in the process.

This year’s highlights included the opportunity to be a part of the SUNY Canton men’s and women’s soccer program. The Roos hosted our players in a skills clinic. All players had the opportunity to escort the men’s team onto the field for a home match and stand side by side with the team during the national anthem.

We celebrated the season’s conclusion with an ice cream social with the SLU men’s and women’s soccer teams as well as the SUNY Canton men’s and women’s teams helping to serve.

The Pee Wee Soccer program is grateful for the support of the local businesses that sponsored a team. This year’s sponsors included: St Lawrence Plaindealer, Oot & Associates Law Firm, Sergi’s Italian Restaurant, Hot Tamale, Viable Option, Star Route Auto Service, Canton Apples, Extension Learning Farm, TTS Tree Service, Claxton Hepburn Medical Center, Glow Skincare and Spa, Smile Associates, Dr. Lisa Francey Towle and Dr. Jamie Towle Chiropractors, Sergi’s Pizzeria, Canton United Methodist Church, Hunt Appraisals, The Hoot Owl, Rivers Septic, Great Northern Printing, Parker Maple Farm, Nature’s Storehouse, McCluskey Photography, Leberge & Curtis, and Mort Backus & Sons.

Balloons donated from White’s Flowers started the season out great helping to direct each team player to their field. Apples were donated by Canton Apples to each player for a sweet snack as the weather cooled off and fall set in.

A special thank you goes out to all the coaches who showed up each night enthusiastic to play and lead their team. A handful of people were there to help set up the goals, line the fields, make field maps and help with behind the scene tasks throughout the season; a big thank you to you too.

It was a great season and I look forward to seeing everyone on the soccer field next summer.
