Canton man running for county treasurer 'willing to rollup sleeves to get job done'

To the Editor:

I am a candidate for St Lawrence County Treasurer and would like to tell you a bit about myself.

I had the honor of working for the citizens of St Lawrence County for 8 ½ years. I was with Public Health for 4 years and deputy county treasurer for 4 ½ years.

As deputy treasurer, I was charged with accounting for a $236 million budget. I worked with the director of Public Health to help create a Board of Health replacing 44 separate public health districts. This saved taxpayer dollars and provided enhanced services to the citizens of the county. While with the Treasurer’s office I developed an internal control policy, that the county lacked, that has since been adopted and currently in use.

Additionally, I was part of a task force to determine a new Enterprise Resource Planning system for the county’s finances. I took the reins on many aspects of the system development. I also developed a training program specific to the needs of county employees. I was the lead trainer of the system for new and existing staff. The system has been an invaluable tool to the county.

I have 30 plus years of management and financial experience managing staffing levels as high as 450 employees.

My education includes a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and a Master of Business Administration. I am currently working on completing my Certification of Government Financial Management through the Association of Government Accountants.

Sandy and I live in Canton and love St Lawrence County. We raised three very successful sons here. I sit on the Boards of Directors for SeaComm Federal Credit Union and Lights On The River.

Anyone who knows me knows I am willing to roll up my sleeves and put in the time and effort required to get the job done. That is exactly what I intend to do as your next county treasurer.

Over the next month I will be visiting folks asking for signatures on petitions from both the Republican and Conservative Parties. I humbly request your support during the petition process and on Election Day. I have had the pleasure of meeting many people since I announced my candidacy back in March and I look forward to meeting each of you as well.
