Canton honor students raise $600 for charity

To the Editor:

The Canton Chapter of the National Honor Society raised $600 this year to help make the holiday brighter for local students in need and their families. NHS members sold raffle tickets for the opportunity to win gift certificates donated by local businesses.

We would like to thank the following businesses for their generosity and sense of community: the American Theater, the Blackbird Café, Price Chopper, TAUNY, Josie’s, Hot Tamale, Sergi’s, Jreck’s Subs, the Brewer Bookstore (SLU), Glow Skincare and Spa, Domino’s, and Kinney Drugs.

Many students contributed to this worthwhile project. However, I would like to recognize three students in particular. Julia Bailey and Hilary Wilcox spent worked especially hard, contacting local businesses and organizing and running the raffle. Also, I would like to thank Mikhail Fischer for helping to ensure the success of our project by selling raffle tickets at numerous home sporting events.

Finally, thank you to everyone in the community who supported our endeavor by buying raffle tickets. We hope to make this a yearly tradition of holiday spirit!

Lisa Gordon, Canton Chapter of NHS
