To the Editor:

On May 4-6, Canton Canoe Weekend held its 57th annual race weekend. The board would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who sponsored, volunteered or took part! We could not put on this historic community event without the interest and assistance of everyone involved.

The weekend was a great success, drawing competitors from the local community, and across NY State, as well as CT, MA, MI, NH, PA, TX and the provinces of Ontario and Quebec. A total of 158 paddlers took part in the weekend races that varied from recreational relay races to world class pro competitions.

We would like to send a special thanks to St Lawrence Health System for their sponsorship of the men’s C-1 Pro Race. This race draws the best pro paddlers from across the US and Canada.

We would also like to thank Canton FFA for joining with us to provide one of their locally famous chicken barbecues and Saturday breakfast for race participants. They sold out of chicken before all were fed and we hope that they will return again next year to feed an even larger crowd!

We look forward to joining together with the local community in 2019 to bring an even better 58th annual Canton Canoe Weekend to the Grasse River in Canton.
