To the Editor:
In the 9th Legislative District in St Lawrence County, Dan Martin of Canton, is running for the seat currently held by Steve Putman.
I know both men and I am writing in support of Dan Martin.
I’ve known Dan for close to forty years. He is a man of good character; honest, a good husband and father and a man whose word can be counted on. Dan has lived in Canton his whole life and has served on the Canton Village Board for six years and as Deputy Mayor under Marilyn Mintener.
He was appointed to the John G. A. O’Neil Business Advisory Council for his trusted and extensive business background in the family business; 22 years with Edson Martin Beer Distributors. Dan has also worked in the insurance industry for 8 years and has managed his daughter’s business in Potsdam, Between the Buns, for the past three years.
Combine this wealth of private sector business experience with his solid character and you can understand why I think so highly of him for this position. We need someone with financial discipline and accountability in our county government more than ever before.
We need someone representing District 9 who will take his responsibility seriously; someone who will attend all weekly committee meetings, where the real work is done, as well as the full legislative board meetings once a month. Mr. Martin’s opponent has been absent for some three months each winter and is reported to have been ‘skyping in’ to the board meetings for votes. If my information is correct, he has missed some ten meetings last winter.
The bottom line is this - he isn’t here to meet with and talk to the people he represent in the 9th District– us! Please join me in voting for Dam Martin on November 4. He is the right man for the 9th District!
Dan Wilson, Canton
