Candidate willing to work on county’s financial mess; wants attacks on campaign volunteers to stop

To the Editor:

I’m willing to spend my spare time trying to help straighten out St. Lawrence County’s financial mess, but if the voters decide to leave that task to Jim Bunstone instead, that’s okay with me.

This letter isn’t about winning the election. This letter is about the shameful way some members of the Potsdam Democratic Committee have personally attacked my volunteers, Philip Paige and Mark Hussain, in the press. Philip and Mark are not running for office.

Let me say that again. Philip Paige and Mark Hussain are not running for office.

Mark made the mistake of attending a meeting of the Potsdam Democratic Committee alone to tell them he was willing to campaign for Aaron Woolf. The result has been wild claims about him in letters to the editor from Committee members. Given that no one else was at those meetings, it is now his word against theirs.

Apparently, we need to start warning SUNY Potsdam students to travel in pairs to meetings of the Potsdam Democratic Committee to protect themselves from vicious and libelous attacks. Philip defended Mark, opening himself to attack as well.

How can members of the Potsdam Democratic Committee be so threatened by two college students?

Please, vote for Jim Bunstone if you want, but stop defaming these two bright young adults.
