Call congressmen to oppose ‘rooftop’ funding

To the Editor:

Right now, Congress is mulling over a big transportation bill and the “Rooftoppers” are working overtime to get some recognition for their project.

I would urge anyone who is against this to make their opinions known to the decision makers.

To all of you who continue to say that it will never happen, this would certainly be the time to write an e-mail or better yet, make a call.

A call is not difficult and usually an aide will directly answer your call. Tell the aide that you are from the 23rd Congressional district and that you are calling in regards to the emerging infrastructure bill.

You could mention your opposition to the rooftop highway and your support of upgrades to Route 11. You might also want to comment on the lack of information and public discussion on the project and that this is basically being pushed by a small group of fairly well organized people.

The House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee is handling this.

Congressman John Mica, R-Fla., is the chairman -- 202-225-4035. Also on this committee is Richard Hanna from Barneveld (near Utica) -- 202-225-3665. Bill Owens, who is not on the committee, could also be contacted -- 202-225-4611.
