To the Editor:
This past fall, I was stopped four times on the same day at a Border Patrol road block on State Route 56 in Massena.
Each time, I was made to answer questions about my travels and birthplace. I live nearby and was making trips to Home Depot while working on a home project. This infringement on our rights seemingly went on for hours.
This harassment got me to thinking, why aren't these roadblocks done in other parts of New York or Vermont for that matter? I asked, and the older officer at the road block said that congressmen in other areas told them not to.
So, I'm contacting Congress about this issue. I suggest that anyone who thinks this is an infringement on our rights do the same.
We should not have to stop in front of our own homes to tell someone where we were born. It will take you ten minutes to email or call our Congresswoman and Senators.
