Opinion: Ogdensburg mayoral candidate Ashley says he will fight to make city better place

To the Editor:

For 38 years, when people in Ogdensburg needed help, they knew they could count on me to protect them and their families. As a sergeant in the Ogdensburg Police Department, a member of the Army Reserve and National Guard, and as a member of the Ogdensburg City Council, I have tried to look out for the people of the City where I grew up and chose to spend my life.

I’m not a politician. I have spent my life working with anyone who wanted to make our community a better place.

I want to serve as your Mayor because I believe Ogdensburg is at a crossroads and needs someone who will look at what’s best for our community, not what’s best for any political party.

I’ll fight to hold the line on taxes to make this community an affordable place to live and raise a family.

I’ll fight for real long-term economic growth for small businesses and manufacturers.

I’ll fight for an equal share of state and federal aid for projects to revitalize our community that will help people land secure jobs that give their family a prosperous future.

I want to fight for you and your family so our children and grandchildren can make their homes in Ogdensburg.

Together we can: Fight to hold the line on property taxes, help our existing businesses grow and create more jobs, make Ogdensburg a place that welcomes new business, new jobs and investment, keep city government free from political control and partisan politics, reach across the aisle to find bipartisan solutions, crack down on drug dealers and meth producers, expand our tax base by getting more tax exempt property back on the tax rolls, redevelop our waterfront, work with our state and federal representatives to insure Ogdensburg gets its fair share, fight to protect our prisons and psychiatric center and reach across the border to help rebuild our economy.

Vote for me on Tuesday, Nov. 3.

Wayne Ashley

Candidate for Mayor of Ogdensburg
