WPI junior Austin Scott, Waddington, recently finished 68th at the 2015 NCAA Division III men’s cross championship, hosted by Wisconsin Oshkosh, at Lake Breeze Golf Club.

The junior, who steadily improved his position throughout the race, moved up 20 spots in the final 3,000-plus meters before crossing the finish line 68th out of 278 runners.

Scott’s time of 25:20.1 was better than the 59th-place time (26:05.03) turned in by WPI Hall of Fame’s Dave Berthiaume at the 1990 championship in Grinnell, IA.

Just one week ago, Scott earned All-New England status with a 30th-place finish at the NCAA Division III Regional to become one of 56 individuals nationally, who were not part of a qualifying team, to earn a berth to the title meet.

The repeat All-NEWMAC honoree placed seventh at the conference championships and was 36th at the All-New England All-Division Championships.

He opened the campaign with a fourth-place effort at the Bowdoin Invitational and later won the Worcester City Meet individual title.

Scott also finished sixth at the Conn. College Invitational.

With Scott leading the way, the Engineers reclaimed the city title and posted a program-best 10th-place finish at the regional meet.

He also helped the Crimson and Gray set the program record for fewest points in the teams’ runner up finish at the NEWMAC Championships.
