CANTON -- The Society of the Untied Helpers recently honored three newly appointed emeritus members at the spring fling dinner.

Gouverneur Native Norton W. Taylor has been a member of the RiverLedge Campus since he joined the Society of the United Helpers in 1997.

From 2003 to 2012, Taylor served on the personnel committee.

He also served on the Management Company Board of Directors from 2009 to 2012 and helped with the United Helpers Cedars Capital Campaign.

Verna I. Hutchinson of Heuvelton has been a member of the Society of the United Helpers for 31 years. She served most of her years on the RiverLedge Membership, where she held the position of president in 1997 and vice president from 1998 to 2001.

Chairwoman for the nominating committee, Hutchinson was a member of the Society Board of Directors in 1984 and 1985, as well as the United Helpers Residence from 1996 to the present.

She also helped with the United Helpers Cedars Capital Campaign.

Ogdensburg native Christopher B. Acker originally joined the Society of the United Helpers in 1961, where he served as vice president of the Society Board of Directors in 1961 and 1962.

He was elected as the first male president of the Society Board of Directors in 1967 where he served for two years. From 2001 to 2007, he once again served as president of the Society of the United Helpers.

Over the years, Acker has been on several committees including the finance, investment and planning committee.

He also helped with the United Helpers Cedars Capital Campaign.

Other emeritus members include Joan Carlisle, Robert Fraser, Constance Hanson, Jacqueline Hodges, Edward Norris, Frank Schwartz, Dorothy Simms, Janet Stitt, Becky Van de Water and Jean Tenant.
