Three SUNY Canton athletes honored by USCAA

CANTON – Three SUNY Canton athletes have been honored by the United States Collegiate Athletic Association.

Junior forward Irving Cato (New York, N.Y.) has been named a Division I all-American. Cato is one of 12 players selected to the team and he earned the honor after a stellar season leading the Roos to a 12-11 overall record.

Cato led the team in scoring and rebounding averaging 14.7 points and 8.4 rebounds while starting and playing in 22 of 23 games. He averaged over 31 minutes per game and shot 47 percent from the field and 64 percent from the free throw line. He dished out 44 assists and made 38 steals and nine blocks and also led the squad with nine double-doubles.

Junior forward Kaitlin Myers (Dannemora, N.Y.) has been named an Honorable Mention all-American.

Myers started in all 22 games this season and led the Roos in scoring (16.0), rebounding (8.7), assists (56), blocks (42), steals (34) free throw shooting (.789), 3-pointers made (40), three-point shooting (.400), and minutes (33.3). She was also second in shooting converting just over 46 percent of her shots from the field.

Junior forward Jackie Sedlacek (Endicott, N.Y.) has been named to the all-Academic Team.

Sedlacek played in all 22 games and averaged 6.6 point and 7.2 rebounds while shooting 37 percent from the field. She handed out 46 assists and made 31 steals averaging 32.6 minutes per game. A student-athlete must be a sophomore or higher and have a cumulative grade-point average of 3.5 or higher to be considered for the all-academic honors.
