CANTON -- SUNY Canton’s online learning systems manager, Jerry J. Bartlett, recently received the 2013 President's Meritorious Service Award.

The award is the college's highest honor to a staff member.

Bartlett has played a large role in the expansion and success of the school's online learning program, according to SUNY Canton Interim President Carli C. Schiffner.

"Jerry has become part of the fabric of our college," Schiffner said. "His sense of inquiry led him to be a leader in online learning."

Bartlett began working for the college in 2006. He provides technical support to faculty who teach online and maintains the software necessary to administer online courses.

SUNY Canton OnLine has grown rapidly over the past several years, according to staffers.

Bartlett credited the success of the department to the high level of customer service that he and his colleagues provide to faculty and staff. "The people who I've worked with in this department over the years have been amazing," he said.

Bartlett also volunteers his time to assist with training St. Lawrence County Law Enforcement Academy cadets and serves as a guest speaker during the college's Sustainability Lecture Series.

"His contributions to our community are immeasurable," Schiffner said. "He is selfless with his time and gives more than 100 percent with anything he pursues."

Bartlett graduated from SUNY Canton in 2004 with an associate degree in liberal arts and science.

He resides in Colton.
