Leadership at the State University of New York in Albany has awarded an adjunct faculty member at SUNY Canton in the system for excellence in teaching.
Humanities instructor Jill L. Martin is among those honored with a 2014-15 Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Adjunct Teaching.
These awards are recognition for “consistently superior professional achievement and to encourage the ongoing pursuit of excellence,” according to SUNY Chancellor Nancy Zimpher’s press release.
These awards are going to adjunct faculty, who are most frequently temporary and untenured staff with little or no job security who paid much less than regular faculty.
“Adjunct teachers across the SUNY campuses provide consistently excellent instruction and are a key component of our faculty as we seek to increase access, completion, and success among students,” said Zimpher. “Those honored with this year’s award have demonstrated extraordinary dedication to their students and an exceptional commitment to quality teaching.”
