CANTON -- St. Lawrence University appointed nine new tenure-track faculty members who began teaching this semester. The new teaching faculty bring with them areas of expertise that include the humanities, performing arts, and both the physical and social sciences.

Classes began on Wednesday, Aug. 26.

Newly appointed tenure-track faculty:

• Natasha Komarov, assistant professor of mathematics, received her Ph.D. in 2013 from the Department of Mathematics at Dartmouth College.

• Sahar Milani, assistant professor of economics, completed her Ph.D. in economics at the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee.

• Erik Johnson, assistant professor of performance and communication arts, received his Ph.D. communication studies with a certificate in African studies at Northwestern University.

• Jeffrey Maynes, assistant professor of philosophy, earned his Ph.D. in philosophy from Johns Hopkins University.

• Daniel McLane, assistant professor of sociology, earned his Ph.D. in sociology at Colorado State University.

• Peter Pettengill, assistant professor of environmental studies, earned his Ph.D. in natural resources at the University of Vermont.

• Allison Rowland, assistant professor of performance and communication arts, earned her Ph.D. at University of Colorado at Boulder.

• Samuel Tartakoff, assistant professor of chemistry.

• Elyssa Twedt, assistant professor of psychology, earned her Ph.D. in psychology from the University of Virginia.
