POTSDAM — St. Lawrence Health System has named three Canton-Potsdam Hospital employees of the quarter.

George Grubee, Sue Hughes, and Brandi Rusaw were nominated by their peers to receive this honor.

George Grubee, LPN joined CPH in 2006 as a licensed practical nurse. He has dedicated his service to patients at the hospital and its off-site locations over the past 10 years. His colleagues consider him a strong team member who brings unity and passion to all of the St. Lawrence Health System practices.

“George is warm, caring, and provides the ultimate patient-care experience through care delivery that reflects professional standards,” noted Marie Roberts, physician practice manager.

“He is considered a mentor by many and his sharing of knowledge and experience is welcomed by new staff. He always has his patients’ best interest in mind,” added Marie.

Susan Hughes was hired with CPH in 1993 as a mammography technologist. Within her 24 years with the hospital, she has been credited for her exceptional customer service skills. Peers and patients alike note her thoughtful nature and ability to connect with patients.

“Sue is a dual-specialty technologist in mammography and X-ray services. She is extremely passionate about her work, so much that some patients specifically come to Canton to have ‘Susie’ perform their exam. As the clinical instructor for North Country Community College X-ray students, Sue shares that passion and enthusiasm with the next generation of radiology technologists. She has become a mentor to our ‘younger’ employees, and a coach to those techs cross-training into mammography. She truly is the ‘glue’ that helps hold the department together. A leader, teacher, mentor, peer, and friend,” said Stacie Woodward, RN, director of cardiac and imaging services.

Brandi Rusaw, RN joined CPH’s quality department in 2008 as a case manager and developed into her current role of transitional care coordinator in 2014. She is commended by her peers for going above and beyond the expectations of a care coordinator making safety and comfort a priority when helping patients adjust to their different levels and types of care.

“Brandi exemplifies all the best qualities of CPH’s commitment to professional, patient-centered, quality care. She is always advocating for our patients and goes out of her way to assist them to learn about their disease process, connect them with services, and be sure they have the needed resources to manage their care,” said Pat Ellis, NP.

“Even beyond those qualities, she is always willing to assist other staff members, always has a positive attitude, and strives to see the best in everyone she meets. She gives 110 percent to everything she does and makes a difference in people’s lives daily,” added Ellis.

Hughes, Grubee, and Rusaw were given a dish garden, chamber gift certificates, CPH gift shop gift certificates, a memento pin, and a designated parking space for the next three months.
