POTSDAM -- St. Lawrence Health System has chosen Canton-Potsdam Hospital’s 2017 employee of the year, Nurse Erin Geer of the hospital’s The Birthplace.
Geer was chosen from 12 finalists who all received special recognition as fellow employees of the quarter in the past year.
Since joining the hospital in 2014, Geer, an RN, chose to advance her nursing skills by completing a course in intermediate fetal heart monitoring, improving her expertise in interpreting and responding to fetal heart monitoring tracings. With that, she has also improved the monitoring and labor management care she provides to her patients.
Colleagues recognized Geer for her exemplary patient care and her extraordinary willingness to help both patients and staff.
Patients have noted that nurses like Geer “make a hard job look enjoyable,” and that she “takes great pride in her quality of care,” according to the award announcement from SLHS.
The Birthplace Interim Director Barbara Bromley, RN, said “Erin understands and practices ‘patient-family centered care,’ and is guided by what is best for the patient. She is an asset to the team and upholds our CPH standards.”
As employee of the year, Geer received Potsdam Gift Certificates, an achievement plaque, floral arrangement, and the admiration of her colleagues.
