POTSDAM -- Several St. Lawrence County students will be among the nearly 300 students from the SUNY Potsdam Crane School of Music performing at Carnegie Hall in honor of the college’s bicentennial this Mother’s Day.
Maestro Duain Wolfe will conduct the Crane Chorus and Crane Symphony Orchestra in a celebratory concert befitting the college's 200th anniversary, featuring guest artists, epic works and a world premiere, according to a press release from the college.
This concert will be Sunday, May 8 at 8:30 p.m. in the Stern Auditorium/Perelman Stage.
The local students performing include:
• Bridget Hall of Gouverneur, who is an alto vocalist in the Crane Chorus
• Cameron Hance of Dekalb Junction, who is a tenor vocalist in the Crane Chorus
• Morgan Hastings of Canton, who plays French horn in the Crane Symphony Orchestra
• Akec House-Baillargeon of Harrisville, who is a bass vocalist in the Crane Chorus
• Bryan Jaquith of Madrid, who is a bass vocalist in the Crane Chorus
• Sabrina Johnson of Colton, who plays trumpet in the Crane Symphony Orchestra
• Ivan Jukic of Potsdam, who is a tenor vocalist in the Crane Chorus
• Taylor Prosper of Potsdam, who is a bass vocalist in the Crane Chorus
• Hannah Roberts of Canton, who plays contrabassoon in the Crane Symphony Orchestra
This is the third time in the history of SUNY Potsdam that a Crane group has performed at Carnegie Hall.
"The May 8 Carnegie Hall performance by the Crane Chorus and Crane Symphony Orchestra is an auspicious one, marking both SUNY Potsdam's bicentennial year and a return to Carnegie Hall for these Crane ensembles,” said Crane School of Music Dean Dr. Michael Sitton.
“The profile of this concert will showcase on one of the world's most auspicious stages the high standard of excellence constantly maintained by our dedicated faculty, excellent students and loyal alumni," he said.
Crane will welcome Maestro Wolfe, the 2016 Dorothy Albrecht Gregory Visiting Conductor, for a campus residency leading up to the concert during SUNY Potsdam's Lougheed-Kofoed Festival of the Arts.
Two vocalists will be featured soloists in the performance, including soprano student Fei Ma and guest artist Christopher Feigum, baritone.
