The Girl Scouts of NYPENN Pathways recently honored several local volunteers at a volunteer appreciation dinner.

Marcia Oney of Chase Mills received the “Thanks Badge." The Thanks Badge honors an individual who has “committed themselves to the Girl Scout organization and who has a measurable impact on the council and the entire Girl Scout movement,” according to a press release.

Oney is currently a service unit manager but has held many positions within the Girl Scouts, including troop leader and service unit delegate, and has served on many committees.

She organizes and runs the encampment every year and assists in organizing the North Country cookie kickoff. In addition, she helped to organize the North Star Service Unit, which consists of five different areas coming together to plan programs and events for girls in the North Country.

Ellen MacMaster of Hannawa Falls and Marilyn Paradis of Potsdam received the “Thanks Badge II.” The Thanks Badge II honors a previous Thanks Badge recipient who has “continued to provide excellent service in a leadership role and has a measurable impact on the Girl Scout movement,” the release said.

MacMaster currently serves as a council facilitator and is a service unit team member. She has held many positions in Girl Scouts including troop leader, representative to the national convention, and a council delegate.

She also trains volunteers in Red Cross first aid, CPR, babysitting, and wilderness first aid.

She assists in running the service unit encampment for girls and serves on the committee to organize the cookie kickoff in the North Country. She also helped to organize the North Star Service Unit.

Julie Bush of Hammond was recognized with the “Honor Pin.” The Honor Pin recognizes “an individual’s service in support of delivering the Girl Scout leadership experience to girls and has had a measurable impact on two or more geographic areas of service,” the release said.

Bush is a service unit manager, cookie coordinator, and troop leader. She has assisted in planning the North Country cookie kickoff and helped to organize the North Star Service Unit.

April Allen of Hermon, product coordinator, registrar, troop leader and troop assistant; and Maria Freitas-Ladouceur of Hammond, troop leader, received the “Appreciation Pin.”

The Volunteer of Excellence award recognizes volunteers who have “contributed outstanding service to girls and have implemented the Girl Scout leadership experience,” according to the release.

Girl Scout volunteers “are the backbone of the Girl Scout organization. Without them the Girl Scouts would not be able to offer the amazing Girl Scout Leadership Experience to girls,” according to the release.
