POTSDAM -- At the invitation of the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology University (RMIT), Clarkson University Professor Goodarz Ahmadi spent 10 days in June at the university in Melbourne, Australia.

While there, Ahmadi, who is a Clarkson Distinguished Professor and Robert H. Hill Professor of Mechanical Engineering, delivered a campus-wide seminar at RMIT's annual conference, as well as a department-wide seminar.

In addition, he taught a 12-hour short course on stochastic processes to 150 students, postdocs and industrial representatives.

RMIT is a university of 80,000 students and partner of Clarkson for student exchange and other activities.

With similar roots to Clarkson, RMIT was established in 1887 as the Working Men’s College with the aim of bringing education to the working people of Melbourne. Clarkson was founded in 1896 as a memorial to Thomas S. Clarkson, a successful entrepreneur and Northern New York businessman who was also distinguished by a deep and abiding concern for humanity.

Ahmadi served for nearly a decade as dean of Clarkson University's Wallace H. Coulter School of Engineering, before returning to full-time research and teaching in 2015.
