POTSDAM -- John Coleman of Potsdam, a member of the Clarkson University men's basketball team, earned Capital One/CoSIDA Academic All-District 3 honors for his performance in both athletics and in the classroom.
Coleman, who has a 3.97 grade-point average through seven semesters with a major in mathematics, will advance to the national ballot, where he has gained a spot for each of the last two years.
The senior guard/forward currently leads the Liberty League in scoring (17.2 ppg), field goal percentage (54.4%) and steals (2.3 spg). Coleman also is averaging 6.1 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game and is shooting 43.1% from beyond the 3-point arc and 70.5% from the free throw line. Coleman enters the last home weekend of the year for the Golden Knights just 37 points shy of tying the program's all-time scoring record. He already holds the record for most field goals made (691) and steals (208). He has made more baskets than any other current player in all of Division III.
This is Coleman's fifth CoSIDA All-District honor, winning three times for the men's basketball teams and twice for the Golden Knights' baseball squad.
In addition to that, he received the Liberty League Performer of the Week honor on Feb. 9.
