POTSDAM -- United University Professions (UUP), the union that represents academic and professional faculty on State University of New York campuses, has awarded one of its annual scholarships to a local SUNY student.
Amy Smith of Potsdam, a sophomore at SUNY Potsdam majoring in math and psychology with a grade point average of 3.98, was one of the recipients this year.
The union awards UUP College Scholarships to outstanding full-time undergraduate students enrolled at a SUNY campus.
Applicants for the $3,000 scholarship must have a minimum grade point average of 3.75. Students must also demonstrate personal and academic achievement as well as a strong record of community service and a dedication to labor unions.
The application deadline for the 2013 scholarships is March 1.
Scholarship applications will be available after Dec. 1 and can be completed online by visiting UUP’s website at http://www.uupinfo.org/scholarships/scholarship.php.
Applications will also be available at UUP chapter offices, at campus financial aid offices, or by calling UUP’s Administrative Office toll-free at 800-342-4206.
