NORWOOD -- The Seaway Career & Technical Education Center has named Brandon Palmer as the Potsdam Rotary Club Student of the Month for January 2017. He is a student in the metalworking program and attends Norwood-Norfolk Central School. He is the son of Leo and Marilyn Palmer.

Palmer has experienced and practiced many skills such as oxy-acetylene cutting/welding/brazing, stick welding, mig welding, tig welding, and air carbon arc and plasma cutting operations. He has also learned blueprint reading and weld symbol interpretation. In addition, he has worked on career planning, resume writing and leadership skills in his time as a student leader.

After graduation, using the skills learned in the program, Palmer could obtain an entry-level welding position or further his training with a technical college or union apprenticeship.

The instructor, Miss Nanci Collins, has said the following about Palmer: “Brandon is a great representative for this program. He is professional and willing to accept any challenge. He is goal oriented and takes pride in his work. He has acted as a student leader for our program helping to recruit future students into the program and setting an example for his peers with his upbeat and encouraging personality.”

Students selected as Program Student of the Month for their class at Seaway Career & Technical Education Center include Sidney Belmore, building trades, Devon Gilbo, HVAC and Daylon Hotte, natural resource management, all of Norwood-Norfolk; Shaelynn Sibbitts, cosmetology, and Nakayla Chatelain, education and human services, both of Canton; Emma Bissonette, cosmetology, and Kyle Patrick, software development and business design, both from St. Lawrence Central; and Dawson Hinman, criminal justice, Parishville-Hopkinton.
