Norwood-Norfolk Central School names students of the month

NORWOOD -- Makenna King, Coryn Young, Sidney Belmore and Kassey Northrop were recently chosen as students of the month for January at Norwood-Norfolk Central School.

“Students are selected for their academic achievements, integrity and leadership in the school and throughout the community,” according to a press release from the school.

King was chosen as the freshman student of the month. She is the daughter of Christopher King and Danielle Lenney of Norfolk.

She enjoys theater and singing. She also loves to run, and she runs cross country and outdoor track.

She is a member of Drama Club and participates in the musical.

She plans to become a physical therapist.

Young was chosen as the sophomore student of the month. She is the daughter of Tonya and Chad Young of Norwood.

She has many interests, including radiology and math. She enjoys watching soccer and hockey.

She participates in school activities such as soccer and indoor and outdoor track. She is also a member of the Spanish Club.

Her future plan is to go to college after high school and continue her interest in radiology, according to the release.

Belmore was chosen as the junior student of the month.

He is the son of Laura Tyo and Derek Belmore of Norwood.

He has many interests, including hunting and fishing. He enjoys spending time with family and friends.

He is a member of Travel Club. He is a three season athlete, and he plays soccer, basketball and baseball.

He plans to go to college for construction management and hopes to own his own business, the release said.

Northrop was chosen as the senior student of the month. She is the daughter of Michael Northrop of Massena.

Her interests and hobbies include sports, math and science. She plays varsity soccer, varsity basketball, and runs varsity track. Her favorite sport is varsity basketball.

She is a member of the Spanish Club and is the secretary of the Varsity Club. She is excited to travel to the Carribean in the spring with the Spanish Club, the release said.

After graduation, she plans to attend SUNY Polytechnic Institute in Utica for civil engineering.

Students received gift certificates from Hotel Grande and Al Smiths of Norfolk or The Hometown Café and Lobster House of Norwood.

The Teacher’s Association also presented the senior student of the month with a gift card to the Clarkson Bookstore.
