Norwood-Norfolk Central names its students of the month for October

NORWOOD -- Jaron Belmore, Hailyn Coller, Austin Ward and Hunter Dewey were recently selected as students of the month for October at Norwood-Norfolk Central School.

Students of the month are selected for their “academic achievements, integrity and leadership in the school and throughout the community,” according to a press release from the school.

Belmore was chosen as the freshman student of the month for October.

He is the son of Laura Tyo and Derek Belmore of Norwood.

Belmore enjoys playing golf. He is a member of Key Club, Travel Club, and Varsity Club.

He plans to go to SUNY Canton for the veterinarian technician program and then transfer to Cornell University to become a veterinarian, the release said.

Coller was chosen as the sophomore student of the month for October.

She is the daughter of Richard and Tara Coller of Norfolk.

Coller enjoys playing soccer, hunting and spending time with friends.

She participates in school activities such as soccer and track. She is a member of Spanish Club.

Her plan is to join the ROTC program for the U.S. Air Force while attending law school, the release said.

Ward was chosen as the junior student of the month for October.

He is the son of Wendall and Carolyn Ward of Norfolk.

Ward enjoys working with his hands to make things perform better and look better. He plays soccer, basketball and golf.

He plans to get his welding certification from BOCES and to attend college, the release said.

Dewey was chosen as the senior student of the month for October.

He is the son of Alvin and Debra Dewey of Norwood.

Dewey's interests and hobbies include refereeing, listening to Nickelback and politics. He “shows his leadership skills” as he is the president of both the Varsity Club and Honor Society, according to the release.

He plays varsity soccer, baseball.

Dewey is also a member of Robotics and Key Clubs.

Upon completion of high school he plans to attend college to earn a bachelor's degree in history and political science. He plans to get his master's in education, the release said.

He would like to someday become a senator.

Hotel Grande and Al Smiths of Norfolk and the Hometown Café and Lobster House of Norwood donated gift cards for the students.

The Teacher's Association also presented the senior student of the month with a gift card to the Clarkson Bookstore.
