POTSDAM -- Terri Evrard Joyce has been appointed clinical assistant professor of physician assistant studies at Clarkson University.
A certified physician assistant, Joyce began her academic duties full time in January, and was previously a clinical adjunct instructor and guest lecturer at Clarkson. Joyce has also been preceptor for physician assistant, medical and EMT students since 1997.
Joyce received her bachelor of science degree in physician assistant studies in 1997 from Hahnemann University in Philadelphia, Pa. She also studied at the University of Wisconsin and Montana State University where she majored in biology and bio-medical science.
Joyce is a nationally certified physician assistant as well as a New York registered/licensed physician assistant. Additionally, she is a member of the American Academy of Physician Assistants, and the New York State Society of Physician Assistants. She is a prior member of the Pennsylvania Society of Physician Assistants. She holds current certifications in advanced cardiac life support and basic life support.
Her clinical experience ranges from emergency department and urgent care to family practice and inpatient care. This includes her most recent work at Canton-Potsdam Hospital, where she has been a hospitalist physician assistant since 2008. She also was an emergency department physician assistant there from 2008 to 2011.
Before that, she served as a family practice and pediatrics physician assistant for five years at Charles Cole Memorial Hospital in Coudersport, Pa. She was an urgent care PA at Williamsport Hospital in Pennsylvania from 2006 to 2007, and a family practice/urgent care PA at Marshfield Clinic-Merrill Center in Merrill, Wis., from 2001 to 2003. From 1999 to 2001, she was an inpatient medicine PA at Geisinger Medical Center Department of Medicine in Danville, Pa., where she was responsible for a broad range of medical services, including general medicine, neurology, gastroenterology, hematology/oncology, and bone marrow transplant.
She worked as an emergency medicine physician assistant from September 1997 to October 1999 at the Erie County Medical Center Department of Emergency Medicine in Buffalo. She was an emergency medicine PA from April 1998 to September 1999 with the Ralph Wilson Stadium (Buffalo Bills) Medical Unit in Orchard Park. Rounding out her clinical experience, she also was a nursing assistant in Wisconsin and Minnesota.
Joyce is a member of several professional groups, including the Computer Physician Order Entry Advisory Committee at Canton-Potsdam Hospital, the Clarkson University Physician Assistant Department Accreditation Committee, the Clarkson University Physician Assistant Department Curriculum Committee, and the Clarkson University Physician Assistant Program Advisory Board.
