MASSENA -- Massena Memorial Hospital Registered Nurse Marlyn Berry recently completed coursework to become a Certified Clinical Documentation Improvement Specialist.

She is working closely with physicians, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants by reviewing patients’ medical files to ensure doctors are thoroughly stating the testing and reasoning behind testing being conducted on each patient.

After analyzing patients’ charts, Berry writes information that allows the hospital’s coding and billing departments to properly invoice medical insurance companies for the services rendered to patients.

Berry studied online courses for two years before she took the test and passed in April.
