Caitlin McMahon, a graduating senior at Massena High School, was recently named a 2016 recipient of the Jeannette and Saul Rosenbaum Memorial Scholarship.

McMahon will receive $500 toward her first year of college studies.

She will matriculate this fall at Union College in Schenectady, where she plans to study biomedical engineering.

She is the daughter of Andy and Meghan McMahon of Massena.

Caitlin ranks sixth in her graduating class of 205. She is being honored for her extensive commitment to community service, including the Link Crew, mentoring of first-year students, and serving as class vice president for four years.

She also raised money for cancer research through the Terry Fox Run, a New York City-based event. She volunteered at the Rotary pancake breakfast, “Make a Difference Day,” and Habitat for Humanity.

The scholarship, named in memory of two lifelong Massena residents, is designated annually for a graduating senior at Massena high school who made a significant commitment to volunteer service or has overcome a significant personal obstacle to attain academic success, according to a press release.

The scholarship, which is awarded annually, is funded by grandchildren of Saul and Jeannette Rosenbaum, whose children Ruth and Joel graduated from Massena high school in the 1940s.
