Moving-Up Day celebrates student achievements in academics and co-curricular activities. It is a campus tradition dating back to 1869, when it began as "Tree Holiday," which added trees to the campus landscape.

In more recent times, the day evolved into an occasion for the recognition of student achievement and a symbolic "moving-up" of students to chapel pews vacated by students a year ahead of them.
