POTSDAM -- A Massena man was among a Clarkson University team that won an award in the recent North Country Regional Business Plan Competition.

Nicholas Jemison and his team Intercollegiate News Network won third place in the event’s information technology and software category.

First place in the category went to a SUNY Plattsburgh team. Another Clarkson team won second place.

In total, Clarkson University student teams won four first-place, five second-place and one third-place wins at the event.

The Reh Center for Entrepreneurship in Clarkson's School of Business hosted the New York Business Plan Competition (NYBPC) semifinals in the Student Center. A total of 31 teams from Clarkson, St. Lawrence University, SUNY Plattsburgh and Alexandria Central High School presented their business plans at the event.

Prizes for each of the university team tracks were $2,000 for first place, $1,000 for second place and $500 for third place. In addition to monetary prizes, the top two winners in each category will advance to the NYBPC on April 29 in Albany.

All high school students who participated in the NCRBPC at Clarkson will receive a $1,000 scholarship per year if they choose to attend Clarkson. The winning teams received additional scholarships and cash prizes. The first place team received $500 plus an extra $3,000 scholarship per year, the second place team received $300 plus an extra $2,000 scholarship per year, and the third place team received $200 plus an extra $500 scholarship per year. The prize money was donated by the Clarkson University Shipley Center for Innovation’s Office of Educational Partnerships.
