Madrid-Waddington student wins scholarship award from Canton Goldenaires

Madrid-Waddington student Alex Hammond recently won a scholarship award from the Canton Goldenaires.

He is the second winner from the school to win this award, which is funded by the Singing Valentines program organized by the men's barbershop chorus.

Hammond is the lead singer for the local band Acoustic Brothers and has performed in many local non-profit events. His band has twice appeared the New York State Fair.

Hammond has participated in school plays, jazz band and select choir.

In addition to his performance schedule, his academic achievements include having been president of the National Honor Society at Madrid-Waddington high school.

He was accepted and plans to attend Valley Forge Military College in Buffalo.

The picture shows Alex with members of the Canton Goldenaires. The Goldenaires will continue this fund raising event every February to help "give back" to the community. Their annual show has been scheduled for July 26th at the Colton Central School.
